Return from Queenborough, Isle of Sheppey to Southend Pier

Catch the Spirit of Sheppey from Queenborough Harbour to the world’s longest pier at Southend on Sea. From there catch the pier train to see the sights, visit friends, shop or simply stroll along the promenade. You can return home on the same day or at a later date by request (subject to availability).

Return from Southend Pier to Queenborough, Isle of Sheppey

Take a trip from Southend Pier to Queenborough Harbour on the Isle of Sheppey. Whether it be visiting friends and family, sampling local cuisine or simply enjoying the attractions of the island you’re sure to have a grand day out on the island. Seal & Porpoise Spotting from Queenborough, Isle of Sheppey

Take a trip out on our flagship Spirit of Sheppey launching from Queenborough Harbour. On the way out to see the historic sight take the opportunity to spot local wildlife which, if you’re lucky might include porpoises and/ or seals native to the Thames Estuary. Look out for the

Maunsall Forts on your trip. (Approx 2 to 2.5 hours).

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee what animals will be sighted on the trip.

While cruising out on to the Thames Estuary we maybe lucky enough to spot local wildlife which may include porpoises and/ or seals which inhabit the local area. You may even catch a glimpse of the historic and iconic Maunsall Forts while you’re out there. (Approx 2 to 2.5 hours).

SS Richard Montgomery Round Trip from Queenborough Harbour, Isle of Sheppey

Catch the Spirit of Sheppey out on to the Thames Estuary where we will take you as close as is safe to do so, out to the sunken SS Richard Montgomery. Both exciting and interesting you will see the protruding masts of the WW2 warship that still holds an explosive cargo that is still monitored to this day. (Approx 1 hour)

Please note, we will not be entering the exclusion zone and will be sticking to all the rules and requirements set down by the authorities.

SS Richard Montgomery Round Trip from Southend Pier


Take the train along Southend Pier to where Jamie Oliver films Friday Night Feast and board the Spirit of Sheppey (our 197 seat passenger ferry). From there we will take a trip out to the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery, a sunken world war two liberty ship that ran aground in 1944. This wreck is carefully monitored by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency because its rotting hull still holds 1,400 tons of explosives that are too unstable to move. This truly is an eerie and exciting adventure for all the family. (Approx 1 hour)

The Ferry that Rocks! Project Redsand Tour from Southend Pier


For music and history lovers alike, this tour will take you back in time to the 1960s where pirate radio ruled the air (and sea) waves and was the inspiration for the 2009 Richard Curtis film The Boat That Rocked. These illegal stations rebelled against the record companies’ hold on mainstream radio stations. On this tour you’ll take the same trip the DJs took out to Project Redsand and you will see where it all began. You can enjoy listening to the music that defined a generation on our superb sound system. (Approx 2 hours)

Island Cruises donate a proportion of the ticket price to Project Redsand to preserve the site for future generations.

Afternoon Tea from Queenborough, Isle of Sheppey

Treat your friends and family for a delicious afternoon tea cruise on the Thames Estuary. Sailing from Queenborough Harbour, aboard you will be treated to tea, coffee and miniature cakes and sandwiches. This is the ultimate way to while away the day while the rest of the world is stuck in traffic you’ll be sitting back, chatting and relaxing with those you care about.



Family Afternoon Tea on the Thames Estuary from Southend Pier

Spend a lazy  afternoon enjoying an afternoon tea or coffee (includes miniature cakes and sandwiches) on board the Spirit of Sheppey as we take a leisurely cruise along the Thames Estuary from Southend Pier. Spot seals, shoot the breeze or simply take in the sea air on this relaxing lunchtime trip before heading back for a spot of shopping with your besties. You can also enjoy a delicious ice cream from our on board cafe. (Approx 2 hours)
